Mahon is a three-time honorable mention recipient. The former Ivy League Rookie of the Year was second on the team in digs per game and third in kills per game. She averaged 3.68 digs, which is 10th best in the league and had 2.33 kills per game. She led the Crimson in service aces with 37 (0.37 per game), which was eighth best in the league. She recorded 10 double doubles during the season, reached double figures in kills 12 times and double-digit digs in 20 matches.
Laura was honored for her work in the classroom by being named to the 2006 Academic All-Ivy Team. The Ivy League released its list of student-athletes selected for All-Ivy Academic honors in fall sports. The 80 men and women were starters or key reserves on a officially recognized varsity team with 3.0 or better cumulative grade point averages. Each institution nominated five men and women from its eligible student-athletes.
has also been named to the 2006 All-Region East team. This marks the first time that a Boston College volleyball player has earned this award.
has been named to the 2006 All-ACC first team. This marks the second consecutive year that Anderson has received this honor. Anderson played in 114 games and 31 total matches this year. She led the Eagles and the ACC with 5.54 digs per game, and also posted a 6.09 digs per game average in conference play, which also led the league. Anderson finished the year ranked 29th in the nation in digs per game.
Vella, a Castro Valley-native, is the current Big West dig leader collecting 5.39 dpg and also ranks 9th in serving with 0.31 aces per game, and fifth most in the league with 30 total aces. The junior libero has posted 523 digs thus far and earlier this season became the all-time Titan dig queen, passing Stephanie Scofield's 1,393 career digs.
Vella entered the Big West's all-time digs top ten in her last match versus UC Riverside, standing with 1,563 career digs. She also posted 37 digs in a game Oct. 26 versus UC Davis, the most ever by any Titan ever.
Baylor senior middle blocker Desiree Guilliard-Young was named to the All-Big 12 honorable mention squad for the second time in her career. Guilliard-Young ranks second in the league with 1.58 blocks per and ranks fifth with a .345 hitting percentage. She also ranked second on the team with 2.90 kills per game.
Guilliard-Young became the first player in Baylor history to record 1,000 kills and 600 blocks for her career, ranking ninth all-time with 1,070 kills and second all-time with exactly 600 blocks. She is Baylor's all-time leader with 1.45 blocks per game and fell just three blocks short of the single season record with 182 total blocks this year.
was named to the Conference USA all-freshman team. Bogan started in 27 of 30 matches this season, starting all 16 in C-USA and playing all 72 league games. She has the Owls' top hitting percentage at .262, is second on the team with 0.92 bpg and adds 2.38 kpg. In 16 league matches, Bogan recorded double-digit kills 13 times and had her first career double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs against UCF.
Baylor senior middle blocker Desiree Guilliard-Young led the Bears with 17 kills and nine blocks and became the first player in program history with 1,000 kills and 500 blocks.
Britt Erickson of UC Davis won the Division I Independent Newcomer of the Week for the week of Sept. 24-30, finishing with 3.56 kpg and 3.0 dpg, plus her five aces at Riverside.
Freshman Natalie Bogan had a career best 19 kills to lead Rice to a 27-30, 30-26, 34-32, 23-30, 15-12 victory over crosstown rival Houston on Wednesday night in Conference USA volleyball action at Autry Court.
